1:30pm - Piquette Meat Market, Detroit
As I turned down Piquette Ave., looking for a route back to I-75, the snow suddenly stopped, so I made a quick run for the Piquette Meat Market which had burned this past summer.
In June 2005, I made my way to Piquette Ave. roughly 10 hours after the fire had started, jumped a police barricade, and clicked off of few frames of almost an entire city block which had burned to the ground. It was sad to see a large piece of history smoking in the early afternoon air then. Sadder still that today only a flat field of bricks marks the spot where this historic building once stood.
Just down the street... a short caravan of city dump trucks parked along Piquette... perhaps waiting for the last memories to be hauled away.
