It's true, all cities have their "bad" areas... but crime happens "everywhere". And honestly, I'm no more fearing for my life in Detroit as I'm am in Birmingham. Hamtramck on the other hand...

Most professionals I've encountered ask whether or not I carry a gun while working. I don't, won't and I choose not to for "objective" reasons. I've played the movie over and over... and it never ends well: dealer runs up while I'm not looking, pulls his gun.. I fumble for mine... bang... somebody's bleeding.. or worse. And for that, I will not carry.

Sticky situations are inevitable, especially given the amount of miles I travel in the city annually. Street smarts have gotten me "away" from as many potential problems in Detroit as they have the local shopping mall.

Rapper Obie Trice Shot on Detroit Freeway

DETROIT - Obie Trice was shot early Saturday while driving on a city highway, police said. Trice, a Detroit native and protege of Eminem, was on the Lodge Freeway at about 1:10 a.m. when his vehicle was shot at by someone in another car, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Mario Gonzales.

Trice managed to continue driving and exited the freeway in the suburb of Southfield, where his girlfriend, who also was in the vehicle, flagged down police, Gonzales said. The girlfriend wasn't wounded.
