Two women were murdered late Monday night in two separate east side neighborhoods. Police have not said if the killings are connected, but they are investigating the possibility.
The two women were found murdered 3.5 miles apart, and the calls came in about 5 minutes apart.
The first woman was found early Tuesday morning, shot in the head near King Richard St. and Kensington on Detroit’s east side.
According to Ed Jaris, who lives near the first shooting scene, "Like I got up basically around 5 or 6. My fiancée had came to me, and said she saw the blue and whites and everything. I looked out and saw the yellow tape. I figured there had to be someone out here dead or what not. She said she heard shots like around 3, but you know, it’s regular around here sometimes. We hear shots, we don’t come running out. We’re not trying to get shot."
At around the same time, another woman was found murdered near Lappin St. and Hoyt. She had also been shot in the head.
Identification was not found on either woman. Anyone with information on the two murders is asked to call Detroit Police Homicide Investigators.

I had shot the east side the previous Monday, December 26. The Kensington and Lappin corners mentioned in the news story above are ones I tour weekly, in fact... the day before. And I can't help but visualize what they might look like at 3am, with gunfire popping followed by dead silence. Fresh crime scenes aren't all that unusual of an encounter for me while working. What is unusual is my imagination working overtime trying to deconstruct the scene WITH me in it.
